J.W. Coon Revised Schedule Guide for Parents

1)Start Time: We will still begin our school day at 7:45 with LIVE (Synchronous) instruction.

2)End Time: The majority of LIVE (Synchronous) instruction will end at 11:00, however some students will take part in LIVE instruction after lunch. Teachers will contact these families directly. Students will have independent assignments (asynchronous) to complete from 12:00 – 1:45.

3)What if my child needs help, from their teacher, between 12:00 and 1:45? All teachers will remain logged into their GoogleMeet rooms during this time so students can “stop in” and ask questions.

4) Will the GoogleMeet links change when the schedule changes? No. You will still use the links you have used for the last two weeks.

5)Lunch: Our new lunchtime will be from 11:00 –12:00. Our Meal Site has served the most customers during this time period.

6) What happens if my kid has an appointment between 12:00 and 1:45? The benefit of asynchronous work is that students can work on their assignments in the evening and still submit the assignments for credit.

7)So to be clear, when does my child have to be logged onto the computer? Students should be logged into their classes from 7:45 – 11:00 for all LIVE direct teaching. Hint: Everything in yellow is LIVE, direct teaching (synchronous). Everything in green is independent (asynchronous), meaning it can be completed at a time of day that is convenient for that child and his/her family.

CCS Waives Student Uniform Requirements for 2020-2021 School Year
Published by Angel Hoggard on August 3, 2020
.....................................................................................................................................................................................

The Cumberland County Board of Education has approved a waiver of Policy 4316 (Student Dress Code, School Uniform Requirements) for the 2020-2021 school year only, as allowed by Policy 2450 (Suspension of Board Policies), due to the financial impact of COVID-19. However, families still have the option to allow students to wear uniforms when Blended-Remote and Face-to-Face Learning is in operation. There will be no consequences imposed upon a student for a uniform violation during the 2020-2021 school year.

Summer Updates
Published by Angel Hoggard on May 26, 2020
.....................................................................................................................................................................................

As students begin their summer break, the following services provided by the district have been altered:

  • CCS Student Services Hotline – With the 2019-2020 school year coming to a close, the Student Services Hotline set up to assist students as they cope during the COVID-19 pandemic will discontinue.
  • [email protected] LIVE Tutoring – The tutoring service ended on the evening of May 21. The remote-learning opportunity offered students assistance with math instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • CCS Prime Time – Because of the pandemic, CCS Prime Time before- and after-school care program will not be operating its usual summer camp this year. In lieu of camp, Prime Time staff will be posting fun summer activities on their Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/CCSPrimeTime/  that parents can use to engage their child during the summer months.
  • Grab-N-Go Meal Service – CCS Child Nutrition Services will not be serving meals to children 18 years of age and younger from Monday, May 25 – Friday, May 29. Beginning Monday, June 1, the district’s summer meal program will operate at various sites throughout the county. For a full list of the locations, visit http://bit.ly/mealpickup.
