Safety Policy Updates

J.W. Coon Safety Updates 1. Between 7:45 and 2:15, adults can only enter the school via the front door. Please ring the buzzer. Be prepared to state your name and the purpose of your visit. 2. You will be required to present identification to pick up a student or visit a classroom. 3. Please update the office each time your phone number or address changes to make sure you receive information in the event of an emergency. 4. In order to change the way your child goes home, you will need to send in a note 24 hours in advance of the change. 5. Asthma: If your child has asthma, you have to supply the school with an inhaler and the required paperwork from the physician. All medicine must be signed into the front office by a parent. 6. The Cumberland County Schools will be installing safety upgrades to all elementary schools. This includes additional fencing and cameras. We will notify you of the construction dates as soon as we become aware of them. Rural schools are receiving the upgrades prior to those of us in the city limits. 7. Students are not to be on the school campus before 7:15 or after 2:30. Children supervised by parents can use our playground areas on the weekend. 8. Guests that use profanity on our campus will be asked to leave and may be banned from the school for the remainder of the year. 9. ALL visitors to the school will be required to sign into the front office and get a visitors badge. Please wear the badge in your chest area. 10. Please keep the school abreast of the people that are allowed to check your child out of school. If there is a change, notify the office immediately. Student safety is key to the success of your children at J.W. Coon. If you have any safety concerns, please contact Principal Blanding at 425-6141 or reginablanding@ccs.k12.nc.us.

Parent Surveys

Parental Involvement is key to the success of all stakeholders at J.W. Coon Elementary.  In December, we administered a parent survey to attain parental input into the decision-making process. Below are two links. The first link reflects the final tally for the multiple choice portion of the survey. The second link displays the results of the open-ended questions as well as the school’s responses to any questions or concerns.  Even if you did not complete a survey, we hope these answers will help you better understand the J.W. Coon experience.
